CCATComponent: CCAT
Description: The CCAT project aims at assessing the impact of new Cross Compliance (CC) measures by using several environmental indicators to describe GHG emissions, soil organic matter, soil erosion, water quality etc. These CC measures (GAECs and SMRs) were introduced with the last reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) in 2003 and aspire to promote more sustainable farming activities in Europe on long term.

Description:To approximate the complex and computationally expensive DNDC-EUROPE code, we developed several metamodels: linear (2), splines (2) and kriging (1), machine learning (3). Finally the random forest based approach was selected to be implemented in the CCAT Coordinator:Wim de Vries |
GGELSComponent: GGELS
Description: The project “Evaluation of the livestock sector's contribution to the EU greenhouse gas emissions” (GGELS) has the objective to provide a thorough analysis of the livestock sector in the EU. Its main objective was to provide an estimate of the net emissions of GHGs and ammonia (NH3) from livestock sector in the EU-27 according to animal species, animal products and livestock systems following a food chain approach.Calculations were done with the CAPRI model which has been completely revised in order to reflect the latest scientific findings and agreed methodologies. The study was commissioned by the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development to the Joint Research Centre by the Administrative Arrangements AGRI-2008-0245 and AGRI-2009-0296.
