For each calculation unit, the difference of direct N2O fluxes (BIOF_gross) is calculated against a reference land use. As reference land use (and reference N2O fluxes) fallow land is used. For regions with no fallow land, extensive grazing is used instead. The difference is referred to as BIOF_net. Crop considered are given below. The average net N2O flux over all crops and countries gives the default net N2O flux. For each region and crop, the difference to the defaul N2O flux is calcualted as BIOF_diff. Crop considered: SWHE (Soft wheat), DWHE (Durum wheat), RYEM (Rye and meslin), BARL (Barley), OATS (Oats and summer cereal mixes), MAIZ (Grain maize), OCER Other cereals including triticale), RAPE (Rape), SUNF (Sunflower), SOYA (Soya), GRAE (Gras and grazings extensive), GRAI (Gras and grazings intensive), FALL (Fallow land), REF (Reference land use).

The Indicator Database for European Agriculture combines results different models giving closes N-budgets at the scale of the HSMUs to EU27. Data used: (i) downscaled CAPRI data using the CAPRI-SPAT approach, (ii) results from the DNC meta-model, and (iii) downscaled results from MITERRA calculations as implemented in CAPRI.
